The usage of supposed fire doors in some Viennese apartments was revealed recently.

The fire doors’ CE labels have led some to doubt the legitimacy due to the fact that these labels are based on the EN 16034 norm, which doesn’t come into action until November 2016. Due to this, a label of this sort is currently impossible to possess. At the moment, the ÜA label applies for Austria.

Upon request, the fitter stated, that the CE label refers to the EN 1435-1 norm, which has been valid for some time, but only applies to windows and doors without fire protection requirements.

The Austrian Institute of Construction Engineering confirmed the presumption that the installed doors are inadequate in their role as smoke and fire protection barriers.
