We congratulate architect Juri Troy on being awarded second place for his entry in the “Vienna crematorium extension” competition

The draft concept continues on from the Holzmeister design by once again freeing the central hall up as an axis in order to be able to incorporate new chapels on either side. This means that the structure can be extended in a way that corresponds to the clarity and balance of the existing building. Thanks to the direct annexation of the chapels, unnecessary through-corridors can be avoided and, instead, added value through the expansive axis zone between the two new buildings is offered.

The following advantages are worth particular mention:

  • Short and efficient walking distances
  • Compact building form thanks to saving on through-corridors
  • Minimal footprint
  • Uncompromising connection to the existing building
  • Optimal expandability for the future
  • Two modern ovens optional on the chapel floor or basement floor
  • Virtually unimpeded operations during the construction phase
